June 2014 meeting of the
Murray Bridge Gliding Club Inc.

held on Thursday June 5 2014

1.0  meeting open  8pm   President opens meeting
present:  Greg, Emilis, Lindsay, Ray, Peter, Baylee, Bob, Rob

2.0  Minutes of April meeting
accepted  moved    Ray      seconded   Greg

2.1  Matters arising
- spare engine     has been advertised in Aviation Trader, a prospective purchaser
may purchase, subject to fit to their mount adapter    

3.0  Aircraft maintenance report
FFQ has been 2 months out of the air:   Conditions  to engine no.4 rear cylinder wear include
           Engine overheated,  Pilot not monitoring CHT. Oil leak from gallery plug repaired
Fuel – use fresh fuel                   ALL
     - preference is to buy fuel on the day if at all possible  to optimise octane behaviour for best performance
use metal ‘jerry’ for storage
Internet information confirms 98 fuel loses performance in unsealed open and plastic containers in only several weeks.

3.1  FFQ further work to do –
underside to be cleaned of oil leak  (an engine through stud is leaking oil and needs Limbach agents approval before repair initiated.
cooling mods to be done  Baylee to ask Steve’s availability to guide works  BAYLEE
first mod – air in cowl in micro balloon               Emilis to look at Saturday
then later add under surface air extract juggle

Air Cadets
They were able to accommodate reduced numbers with motorgliders from Stonefield and Gawler.
Their own aircraft come in September for camp use; but likely to still have need for service providers for day to day flying

5.0  MBGC logo   President to circulate full colour to all for use as preferred letter head                   ROB

6.0  CFI report
Scouts advise their motorgliding is at Pallamana   22 nd August?        they will organise
President give CFI Bill Antell’s email address to pass on    ROB


FFQ operations :  Engine temperature – currently temperature rises rapidly on climb power
aim for max 190 deg C CHT
currently in run-in period  no circuits, fly with varied revs and climb for constant load/temperatures
climb at 60 kts fine pitch and less revs, + level flight to cool
coarse pitch only in true cruise with low revs


6.1  spin checks – pilots are encouraged to arrange attend another club to fulfil this requirement in  compliance of requirements

7.0  Treasurers report
Greg has investigated - ABN free to obtain, but no gain to get - fuel rebate is only applicable if club is GST registered - affiliations for fuel subsidy financially advantageous only for large operations.

7.1  annual accounts soon members to be advised     GREG

8.0  President
- Club SMS system    to be assembled by President by AGM
- Constitution lodgement  to go to Corporate Affairs by President        ROB

- T hangar
owned by Bob & Baylee  President has viewed – it is in disrepair – to be useable needs rebuild   such works need approvals from airfield owner
    President to approach Bill Antell about  replacement work

9.0  GFA issues
- senate enquiry  seek CASA to pull back on recreation aviation onus GFA President has emailed glider pilots on this
- GFA email to pilots - new member number for each – tie to authorisations
- Emilis advised SAGA meeting on May 24; no MBGC representative attended


9.1 upcoming GFA Safety Seminar – 21 June Waikerie    ALL

10.  Any Other Business

10.1  Peter was asked to investigate LED strip cylinder head alert gauge.

10.2 Bob asked that members provide movie footage for Web site if available.

1980s Black Springs film has been seen however minimal coverage pertaining to club activities and members. Cost of 16mm to digital conversion is approx $150. A dubious cost outlay.
